My customer was looking for a solid set of stairs with a removable railing to allow his dock to be pulled up in the fall for wintering. With all the trees along the shoreline, this was the only spot it would fit.

I used my "box style" stairs for this project. The stairs are 5 feet wide, with a rise of 7 inches and a tread width of 15 inches. This extra width allows a person to change their mind and have the space to safely turn around on a stair.

The removal handrail vertical supports are inset thru the stairs and "keyed" to the stair top. They are securely held in place with a removable cedar wedge.
